Whitley Update
John Madejski Academy
We are continuing at the school two mornings a week running a mentoring program, doing some 1 to 1 pastoral care, as well as supervising student services for 1 lesson a week to give staff the chance to meet with students.
We are about to finish our second group of mentees, and there has been some lovely relationships develop between the Sixth Form mentors and mentees. We had feedback about one mentee who is now finding it easier to come to school due to the mentoring and in fact checks each week to make sure it’s happening!
Greece Training
We were approached in January by a friend of SYC’s about doing some training in Greece for the organisation she heads up. It is called Nea Zoi (New Life) and it is a ministry to people coming out of prostitution. They are looking to up skill their outreach workers so that they are able to help their beneficiaries move from just working with them to being able to access other help available to them.
So the last 6 weeks has seen us doing a lot of research and writing as we develop some training that will be helpful. It will be a one week intensive course covering everything from being made in Gods image, to how to create boundaries to loveology and mental health. We will be delivering the course at the end of May in Athens!
