November has been a busy month for us here in Whitley!

National Conference

It was an opportunity for deeper conversations and discussions

Schools work carried on throughout the month where we mainly provided pastoral support during break and lunch time as well as ran 4 small groups with students from Year(s) 8, 9 and 10.

Coffee #1

On 8th November, there was a coffee evening organised to celebrate all that SYC was able to achieve this year through God’s grace and providence as well as with the help of those closely involved in different parts of our work in Whitley. This evening gathered friends, supporters and volunteers from the community and two of the staff members from John Madejski Academy with whom we have consistently collaborated with. It was an encouraging evening where we listened to stories shared by some of those present, celebrated all that has happened and talked a bit about our future hopes and dreams for the young people and the community.

National Youth Ministry Weekend

From 15th to 17th November, all 3 team members (viz. Claire, Anika and Reneta) represented SYC at the National Youth Ministry Weekend as exhibitors at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Infinite Possibilities’ and it was encouraging to listen to talks and be part of conversations which helped place ourselves in the larger picture but also think beyond the box. SYC also had the opportunity of a 20 minutes seminar slot where Claire spoke about shifting culture and transforming communities. The conference provided a space to think, reflect and dream big for our young people and co-dream with Christ who enables and unleashes our plans and potential.

National Conference

SYC’s Annual National Conference was held from 22nd to 24th November at The House of Bread at The Mill in Shipston-on-Stour. This year, the conference gathered fewer members than usual, so it was an opportunity for deeper conversations and discussions. Our main speakers for the conference were Kevin and Linsey Potter from Springwater Church, Reading who have been otherwise involved in a myriad of church and community development work in India, USA, Mexico as well as the UK for over 26 years. From those who attended, this is what one of the Movement Members had to say – “Jenny and I were so pleased to connect again with the incredible Shift team. God is opening so much for them in Reading. Conference was inspiring; the Potters’ transformational input and the sacrifice and dedication of the guys. Oh, and God was invited and turned up!” – Vernon Orr.
