This January, our team in Whitley shares with us about all the work they’ve been doing in the past month.
Most excitingly – our RadioSYC is live!
Enjoy reading 🙂
“We are a group of friends from South Reading building connection and sharing hope, life and joy through our online community radio station.
We are part of Shift Youth + Community who base themselves in local communities and work with churches, schools and other agencies to provide the best opportunities for young people and communities to find their purpose and their voice.
We believe changing lives by transforming culture is possible – and we’re having a blast doing so through radio; we’d love you to join us!”
We started a radio station this month! RadioSYC went live on Wednesday 26th of January. It’s been a bit of a steep learning curve, including doing a live lunchtime show each day (tune in from 12.30-1.15pm!). As it is a radio station for the whole community we have music from the 1940’s all the way to today, so there will be something for everyone. A few students from the local secondary school are also going to be helping us out. We’d love you to have a listen, go to www.radio.syc.life.
Even though schools have been shut down since before Christmas we have been trying to continue to connect with the young people twice a week during their break times over Microsoft Teams. There haven’t been many on, but it’s been good to connect with the few who have taken up the opportunity.
Claire has been supporting a young person from the school through lockdown who has some mental health challenges. She calls twice a week to catch up and see how they are going. The mum has been so thankful that someone has taken the time to help this young person through this season.
Claire started her coaching course with a 2-day intensive (online) in January. She has said it was really informative and exciting to think practically about the impact it can have on our ministry.
Thank you for reading! We hope you are keeping safe and well
Come back next month for another update
Stay safe and God bless
