News from Whitley (South Reading)

Welcome to our center update. Here, in Whitley, we’ve had incredibly busy summer, packed with activities, events and more!

At the beginning of August we ran the Space Academy Kids Club at Whitley Wood Community Centre – the kids were all just amazingly lovely!! it was nice to see the PCSOs who dropped in to say hi whilst we were setting up. We’ve learnt loads: from the story of Daniel in the lions den and trusting God, to learning the fact that a day in Venus is longer than a year!

We finished the Kids Club with the St Paul’s Fun Day, on 4th of August. It was really nice connecting with some of the families from kids club, as well as many other local families:

Just a couple of days before the Kids club – we went to Caversham Court Gardens to meet the national judges of ‘Britain in Bloom’! We were there representing JMA and SYC on behalf of the Re:Start program and the Roundabout planting. What we thought was a quick hello turned out to be a wander around the gardens chatting to the judges and the Mayor followed by lunch and more talking about Re:Start, the awesome young people and how great it was working with RBC.

Shortly after that – Anika and Claire took their First Aid Training with the British Red Cross.

‘But please everybody still play safe at all our events and programs… we’re both a little squeamish 😂😂😂’

<———- Don’t they look gorgeous?

Just a week later – Claire went to Albania, where she was leading 100 bible-hungry individuals (mainly Albanian teenagers) in the quest to discover transformative truths from the Christian faith from the phenomenally exciting truth of what exactly Eternal Life is to how it is more than possible to Live in God’s Kingdom Now.  ‘what an amazing week and what a great bunch of youngsters to waste myself on. (I’m still recovering!!)’

Last but not least – just a couple weeks ago we took part in St Barnabas Fun Day. With  gorgeous weather – we welcomed local families to enjoy BBQ, sack race, face-painting, bouncy castle bouncing, rubber ducks fishing and many, many more activities! And all for free!

Now we’re back, it’s a start of something new…. The Reset Hub team is now live at one of our local secondary schools, every Tuesday to Friday morning. Shift and Learn4Life are working in collaboration to provide a place of hope and life in the school.

There’s so much exciting stuff happening at Shift Youth + Community Whitley. Please keep your eyes peeled for more updates!

God bless!
